WEST Safety Management Policy

pipe burstsafety intro
a safe and healthful place in which to work. To this end, every reasonable effort is made in the interest of accident prevention, fire protection, and health preservation.

Safety is never a secondary issue. The objective of our safety program is not production and safety; it is production with safety. When production with safety is achieved, production with efficiency is attained simultaneously. All WEST employees are receptive to this, and are prepared to help their clients achieve that objective.

It is stressed to all WEST employees that there is no job so important-nor any service so urgent-that time cannot be taken to work safely. Emphasizing this point is an important part of every person's job responsibility and is an essential part of our water treatment programs.

When working in a boiler or HVAC plant environment, everyone is dealing with potentially dangerous mechanisms. High pressures and temperatures, corrosive and toxic chemicals, high speed equipment and high electrical voltages are everywhere. It is a simple fact that individuals are likely to get hurt if they do not follow the rules of plant safety.

WEST recognizes that every workplace is different and safety policy and rules are best developed on an individual basis.

Safety Training and Supervision

WEST field service personnel typically work independently and therefore must be self-reliant in terms of their personnel health and safety. Additionally, our clients depend heavily upon their field service representative to ensure the safety of plant personnel that can be affected by our water treatment programs. Therefore, all WEST employees, including field service personnel, receive safety training on an ongoing basis. The general goals of our training programs are:

  • Understanding individual responsibilities for ensuring personnel safety and the safety of those affected by our programs
  • Identifying and mitigating hazards
  • Process improvement, in terms of both safety and efficiency
Training is accomplished through annual training courses covering Hazard Communications (29 CFR 1910), WEST's Injury Illness Prevention Plan (CA SB 198), Personnel Protective Equipment, and Hazardous Materials Handling (49 CFR 172). Additionally, more frequent training sessions are held where specialized topics are covered, such as specific hazards associated with a certain product, process or activity.

WEST also provides safety training to our clients on topics that are intended to supplement their own Hazard Communication Program.

Identification of Work Safety and Work Performance

Ensuring the health and safety of all WEST employees and personnel who may be exposed to materials supplied by WEST is a foremost priority. As such, WEST field service personnel perform safety inspections of each facility as part of their routine service. Additionally, WEST management conducts periodic audits of the water treatment operations at all of its accounts and at its blending and warehouse facility to verify that every effort is being made to address this priority.
